Each week we will post a summary of interesting and representative 211 calls. This week, we have a connection from Manitoba.
Donations to non-profit agencies are so very important for people in need. 211 has specific information on agencies taking donations. Having an idea of if non-profits can pick up items, how they handle donations and what their criteria are for accepting donations helps people to connect with an agency that they can feel comfortable with.
An older adult called 211 with a specific request. She told the Service Navigator that she would soon be moving as she wanted to downsize. She had some furniture in good condition and did not want it to go to waste. She was looking for an organization that was able to pick up the furniture and give it to individuals in need. She had no way of dropping off the donations herself, and did not want to give them to an organization that would just sell them.
The Service Navigator searched his database for options, and found two that should be able to pick up the furniture, and did not appear to sell the furniture. The caller was happy with the information and took it down. She said that she would contact both services and that she would go on from there.
