Caller Story – June 15, 2024

Each week we will post a summary of interesting and representative 211 calls. This week, we have a connection from Manitoba.

Moving can be a disorienting time, especially for someone who has multiple needs. 211 Service Navigators are prepared to look up several types of services in order to help their callers thrive in their new community.

A 211 Service Navigator took a call from a man in Winnipeg who was new to the city. He was in need of many different supports, and was not sure where to start. He had seen an ad for 211 and was not sure what 211 could do to help him.

The Service Navigator listened to the caller explain their situation and needs. There were many areas where he needed assistance, so he took the time to address his needs one at a time. He was thankful for not being rushed. The caller and the Service Navigator focused on areas, such as housing, employment, clothing, food, rent payment help and counselling.

The caller was very happy that such resources existed in his new community, and was thankful that 211 could direct him to the different kinds of help that he needed. The Service Navigator let the caller know that he was glad that he had called, and encouraged him to contact 211 again as he adjusted to life in Winnipeg.
