Caller Story – June 29, 2024

Each week we will post a summary of interesting and representative 211 calls. This week, we have a connection from Manitoba.

Manitoba:

It is so important to have social ties and connections to the community. People who have lost their partners can be especially vulnerable to isolation after the death of their loved one. 211 Service Navigators will take the lead from the caller, and help them find activities and groups that interest them, so that they can have more robust social and community connections.

An older adult woman, who was recently widowed, called 211. She had lost her partner, but she was not currently searching for grief counselling. She told the Service Navigator that she was very lonely and she felt quite isolated. She decided that she wanted to engage in leisure activities with other people her age. She wanted to meet new people and to socialize, so that she would not be so lonely.

The Service Navigator found out where the caller was living in Winnipeg and what types of activities that she enjoyed. Then she looked in her database and on the Internet to find options that were near the caller’s home. The caller carefully took down all of the information. The Service Navigator asked if there were any other services that she needed right now. This was all the caller wanted for the moment, so the Service Navigator invited her to call again any time she had questions like this.
