Caller Story – March 23, 2024

Each week we will post a summary of interesting and representative 211 calls. This week, we have a connection from Manitoba.

Sometimes the exact service that a client needs does not exist or is not available. However, even in these situations, 211 Service Navigators will display a helpful attitude. They will brainstorm, and check out alternative options to try to give the caller new ideas and leads.

A 211 Service Navigator took a call from an individual who stated they were a therapist for a trans client. They stated that the client was living with a parent and was being abused by her. They were trying to find a trans safe shelter, as the client was experiencing homelessness.

The 211 Service Navigator problem-solved and brainstormed with the therapist. They had been originally looking for a shelter exclusively for trans individuals, but those do not exist in the client’s region. There are women-specific shelters, but the therapist stated that the client had already accessed them in the past and found they were not very safe for them. Thus, the Service Navigator suggested Resource Assistance for Youth, the Rainbow Resource Centre and North End Community Renewal Corporation as possible resources.
