Caller Story – March 4, 2023
Each week we will post a summary of interesting and representative 211 calls. This week, we have a connection from Manitoba.
Manitoba:
Newcomers understandably have so many questions and concerns when they come to their new country. Fortunately, 211 Service Navigators are only a phone call or a text away to help them to settle in their new homes.
A 211 Service Navigator received a call from a recent refugee from the Ukraine who was having trouble finding work. He stated that he was accessing Indeed and LinkedIn, but was struggling to find a job. He had settled in Winnipeg.
The Service Navigator asked several probing questions of the caller to assess his situation and what kind of employment he was seeking. The Service Navigator then referred him to a non-profit agency in Winnipeg that assists people looking for employment to connect with employers. He also referred him to the Government of Canada website for job seekers.
The caller was very happy to discover that these services existed as he had not known about them previously. The Service Navigator let him know that 211 is open 24 hours, and that he can access it any time that he has questions about services in his new community.
