Caller Story – August 27, 2022

Each week we will post a summary of interesting and representative 211 calls. This week, we have a connection from Newfoundland and Labrador.

Newfoundland and Labrador.:

Sometimes the exact program that people need is not available. Even when that is the case, 211 Service Navigators will help clients to problem solve and find possible solutions to their difficulties.

A woman called 211 looking for guidance. She has made many calls to organizations in her area regarding obtaining funding to pay for respite care for her husband who has dementia. She is wondering if there is such a program. She has had no luck so far. She had tried all of the programs that 211 could suggest.

Follow up was provided, and the Service Navigator was able to delve more deeply into the situation. The caller had connected with services that provide respite and has had a home evaluation done. However, the financial cost was still too high for them due to last year’s income tax, in which their income was higher than it is now. It sounded like a possibility that the caller would be eligible for funding assistance from the government next year. The caller was encouraged to keep checking back with 211 for future programs, and to reapply to the government program next year. The caller said that she would do that.
