Each week we will post a summary of interesting and representative 211 calls. This week, we have a connection from Manitoba.
Rebuilding a life after domestic violence takes time and resources. There can be many practical needs, and 211 Service Navigators know who can help with these needs. Whatever their stage in their journey of healing, 211 is there for survivors of violence.
A 211 Service Navigator took a call from an individual who told him that she was fleeing a domestic violence situation. She had been unable to bring anything with her, but had managed to find an apartment that she could live in. However, she did not have any clothes, furniture or appliances and was looking for any programs that could help with those.
The Service Navigator let the caller know that he would find services for her, but first he had to ask her a few questions to best direct her. He learned which part of the city she had moved to, and exactly what type of items that she needed.
He was then able to refer the caller to three different organizations that could assist with furniture, appliances and clothing. He particularly brought one of them to her attention, as it specifically helps survivors of domestic violence. She thanked the Service Navigator and said she would call back if she needed anything else.
